Born to a father who was an accountant  by profession but could easily pass as an accomplished finishing carpenter, from a very young age. Lance was eager to build things. Holding "boards for dad" turned into tree forts. When time permitted, tree forts turned into a house, a cottage and renovations and construction projects with friends and neighbours. Everyone loved to stand back and admire the finished products. Building was fun!

While not losing sight of his passion for building, Lance spent many years in the manufacturing sector in various roles. As a production planner, supervisor, and various management positions, Lance learned that excellent customer service and continuous improvement in your process was paramount in keeping customers happy and helping to make a business profitable and work fun. Lance also has experience in roles such as project management, ISO Quality and Safety program implementation.

Still, having that building passion, Lance never understood why the residential construction industry always rated so poorly in regards to customer service, process improvements, and safety. While there are  many good contractors, it seemed there were too many who just wanted to get the job done, get paid, and be on their way. How many won't even return calls once the job is in progress?

When the opportunity presented itself in 2010 Lance and his wife Irene created "AboveBoard Renovations Inc". After participating in a Small Business Self Employment Program, an extensive business plan was created with the following mission statement:

"AboveBoard Renovations provide residential renovations to Saskatoon and surrounding areas in a professional and ethical manner. We provide a carefree renovation experience and earn the right to be referred by friends and family"
